CSsR – Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists)In Latin, the abbreviation for this congregation is CSsR (Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptoris), meaning Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. The congregation received official approval from Pope Benedict XIV in 1749. The Redemptorists are well known for parish missions, retreats, and simple, accessible preaching. Today, the congregation is active in many countries, with provinces and regions across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia, and its general headquarters in Rome. In 1830, Redemptorists established themselves in Belgium, and by 1832 also in the Netherlands. From Belgium, missionaries left Belgium for their mission to serve in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Ukraine; from the Netherlands, they departed for Brazil and Suriname. |
